What is a Treasure Chest Diamond?

Treasure Chest Diamonds are the pride and passion of Michaels Jewelers, but what exactly makes a Treasure Chest Diamond so unique and special? For those who have done a little research on diamond buying, you will know that cut determines 60% of the value of the diamond and 100% of the sparkle. Michaels Jewelers strives for excellence and wanted to represent a collection that was as perfect as one could achieve.

So in 1948, Michaels Jewelers introduced “Treasure Chest” diamonds with the assurance that they would always represent the finest cut diamonds in the world and have superior light performance when compared to any other diamonds.  It begins with our exclusive relationship with the best cutters in the world that cut from only 1% of the finest diamonds they receive.

Michaels provided the customer further peace of mind by guaranteeing the grading on all of its diamonds. This includes color, clarity, and cut. This guarantee now extends to the value proposition with Michaels 120% price guarantee on all Treasure Chest Diamonds.

Today, Michaels offers a variety of Treasure Chest Diamonds:

Treasure Chest Ideal

This diamond receives the highest possible cut grade from the world’s most scientifically vetted laboratory the American Gem Society Laboratory. It is ideal in proportions, ideal in polish, ideal in symmetry, and ideal in light performance. The coveted AGS platinum grading report is combined with the optimal alignment demonstrated by the hearts and arrows pattern.

Treasure Chest Hearts & Arrows

Treasure Chest Hearts & Arrows maintains the standard of superior alignment of the Treasure Chest Ideal. This more affordable option comes with the AGS platinum report and you are guaranteed that every aspect of the cut grade will be very good or better.

Treasure Chest Princess Cut & Cushion Cut

The princess cut is recognized as the most brilliant of the fancy shaped diamonds. After decades of research and refinement we can now offer our customers a princess cut that receives the highest possible cut grade from the American Gem Society Ideal Light Performance, Ideal Polish and Ideal Symmetry. The Treasure Chest Cushion is the only cushion cut on the market cut specifically for brilliance. It is backed with the AGS grading report and Michaels’ exclusive Love for Life Guarantee.

Treasure Chest 89

The Treasure Chest 89 Diamond has 89 facets versus the traditional 58 facets of a round brilliant cut diamond. This light dispersion creates the absolute maximum brilliance and sparkle in the Treasure Chest 89 Diamond. This beautiful pattern creates prisms of light which is what the eye sees as scintillation. In return, the Treasure Chest 89 Diamond appears to be a higher color and better clarity than and ordinary round brilliant diamond.

Buying Guide: 10 Tips From The Pros On Buying Wedding Bands

michaels-jewelers-weddingband.jpg

With our Wedding Band Event around the corner, we wanted to share 10 Tips From the Pros (our Managers) on buying Wedding Bands and Anniversary Bands:

1. Buy from a reputable jeweler! Buy from a jeweler who wants more than to just make a sale. Deal with one who wants to help you celebrate life’s most memorable moments, for a lifetime and more importantly, make sure they have a good reputation and proper credentials.  We recommend checking out the American Gem Society to find a jeweler who is certified to what is the upmost standard in the jewelry world.

2. Plan ahead and order early, if necessary! With so many designs and custom fittings available, you may choose something that will require additional time. Many special orders can take upwards of 4 weeks or more and you want to make sure you have plenty of time before the wedding to make sure your ring is perfect.

3. Make sure it is what you want. Do you want his and her matching bands? Though matching bands are certainly available, it is not necessary to mach perfectly to either your engagement ring or your significant other’s ring.  Today, we find that more people are choosing non-traditional bands that include alternative metals or a different style that complements the engagement ring but gives it a new look.  Also – another element to consider is what you do for a living.  If you or your significant other works outside or with their hands, it may alter your decision as to what style works best for you everyday lifestyle.

4. Decide what is most important to you. Is the quality of the diamonds more important than the size? Do you want Platinum or Gold? What is your budget? All of these factors will determine what the best value may be for you.  There are so many different options at all price points – ensuring you can find the perfect ring that matches all of your criteria.

5. Find a band that fits your engagement ring. If your engagement ring is set with a higher mounting, a curved band may be the best option so the wedding band runs flush with the engagement ring.  Another option would be an insert or wrap which are two wedding bands soldered together to frame your engagement ring.

6. Customize it! Michaels Jewelers offers many additional services such as custom sizing and inside ring engraving.  Did you see something on Pinterest or in a magazine?  Bring a picture of your dream ring to our store and let our associates help your design the perfect ring.  With our custom ring design, we can create your dream ring – the possibilities are endless!

7. Make sure it matches your metal type! You should consider matching your metals so they age the same over time.  When it comes to the style of the ring, that’s where you can let your creativity kick in.  Today, we find that mixing and matching different styles can complement your engagement ring.

8. Consider having your engagement ring and wedding band soldered together to prevent friction, wear and keep them always aligned. Don’t worry; this process can be easily reversed if you wish to upgrade your ring in the future.

9. Don’t be afraid to add some color. Diamonds are the traditional stone when it comes to bridal however don’t be afraid to add in your favorite gemstone.  We love alternating deep hues of Sapphires or Rubies to give your wedding band a pop of color.  Does a birthstone have significance to you?  We have the ability to create any wedding band using gemstones.

10. Take advantage of our special events! Michaels Jewelers’ Wedding Band Event  takes place from March 24th-April 29th.  During this time, when you buy one wedding band, you will receive a coupon up to $500* towards your second band!  Plus – our weekend trunk shows will showcase hundreds of different styles and you have the opportunity to meet our vendors who can help you pick out the perfect ring.  See below for trunk show dates:

The Biggest Bridal Trends for 2015

We just returned from the JCK Las Vegas show where we met with some of the biggest vendors in the industry and got some great insight on what the latest and greatest trends are for engagement rings and wedding bands.  Check it out below:

  1. The Bigger the Better– With celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé sporting 20+ carat diamonds, more and more, our vendors are getting requests for larger stones — even if it means compromising quality.  There are a few ways to achieve this look without breaking the bank account.  One option is to look for a diamond that may have slight imperfections (in most cases you won’t be able to see inclusions with an SI2 stone and up) or you may want to consider Estate pieces.  Old European Cut diamonds date back as far as 1890-1930 and achieved a  more mathematically round cut stone and bridged the gap of Old Mine cuts and today’s Round Brilliant cut.  These rings can come in very unique and intricate settings (who doesn’t love a vintage look?) but can also be reset to achieve a more modern look.   Another option is to add a halo (or two) which creates the effect of a more prominent look and size, yet can significantly reduce the cost versus going up a size in carat weight.  Lastly, check out Michaels Jewelers’ Special Buys which provide a unique opportunity for stones that are superior but aged and priced far below market value.  So if you don’t quite have the budget of Jay-Z or Kanye, consider this look!

  1. Bright, Beautiful Color – Kate Middleton’s oval Sapphire engagement ring (inheritated by the late Princess Diana) is perhaps the most famous of engagement rings, but certainly not the first! Celebrities have gone non-traditional with colored gems and diamonds such as Halle Berry’s Emerald, Carrie Underwood’s Yellow Diamond and of course, who could forget Bennifer’s Pink Diamond?  Morganite and Amethyst styles are extremely popular and we even had a request for a custom Black Tahitian Pearl engagement ring! If you’re not willing to fully commit to color, accenting your ring with your favorite colored stone or birthstone is also a great way to make your ring truly unique.  We are also seeing colored stones in wedding bands — why not consider mixing and matching your favorite colors together?  We recently saw some bands that alternated diamonds and gemstones which achieved the perfect pop of color.  One caveat with this style is gemstones all have different quality levels in terms of hardness so there is risk in the wear varying depending on which stones you mix and match.  This trend isn’t going away so why not consider one of these vibrant gems when it  comes to ‘the ring’?

  1. Mixed Metals – White metals dominated the industry for quite some time but we are pleased to see more and more colored and alternative metals come back into the mix. Rose Gold, Yellow Gold and two-toned combinations are everywhere in both engagement rings and wedding bands. Combined with diamonds or the gemstone trend, colored metals are a great way to incorporate your favorite tones.  Pink Gold makes a perfect pair with Morganite and we love the monotone look of yellow Diamonds and yellow gold.  We are also seeing a huge trend in men’s alternative metal bands.  Tungsten Carbide, Titanium and Cobalt are extremely scratch resistant and come in a variety of colors and styles as well as significantly inexpensive in comparison to traditional gold and platinum.
